This is some Keith Urban music that you won’t find on any of his albums. Now that we know more about his life we know about his struggles with alchohol and what this song really means to him. I’ve never been a big Keith Urban fan but after listening to this I like him more and more. He’s a singer, musician and song writer.
“Sometimes one of the greatest achievements is just getting thru the day.” – Keith Urban
This is a really great live performance by Keith Urban and Patty Loveless from March 2001. Not exactly the duo you would expect but they sound great together. The full lyrics are included below.

And here is another acoustic version. It was his first #1 hit in the U.S., co-written with “two girls from The GoGos” if you can believe that.

Lyrics
Title: But For The Grace Of God
I can hear the neighbors
They’re arguin’ again
And there hasn’t been peace on our street
Since who knows when
I don’t mean to listen in
But the shoutin’ is so loud
I turn up the radio to drown it out
And silently I say a little prayer
But for the grace of God go I
I must’ve been born a lucky guy
Heaven only knows how I’ve been blessed
With the gift of you love
And I look around and all I see
Is your happiness embracing me
Oh Lord I’d be lost
But for the grace of God
I can see that old man
He’s walking past our door
And I’ve been told that he’s rich
But he seems so poor
‘Cause no one comes to call on him
And his phone it never rings
He wanders through his empty home
Surrounnded by his things
And silently I say a little prayer, yes I do
But for the grace of God go I
I must’ve been born a lucky guy
Heaven only knows how I’ve been blessed
With the gift of you love
And I look around and all I see
Is your happiness embracing me
Oh Lord I’d be lost
But for the grace of God
I look around and all I see
Is your happiness embracing me
Oh Lord I’d be lost
But for the grace of God
Oh Lord I’d be lost
Oh Lord I’d be lost
But for the grace of God
Oh Lord I’d be lost
But for the grace of God
